Thursday Tool Talk- Punches

Today we are going to talk about punches....yes punches!  They are so easy and versatile to use and will last you for a very long time.  A great papercrafting investment!

Today I am going to show you what I discovered last weekend.

Look what happens when you combine three scallop circle punches.....

A coffee filter.....

and some ink.....

.....are you ready.......

Paper Roses!

You can make them in various sizes and fullness, depending on the size of the punch and the number of layers.

Simply punch out scallop circles from the coffee filter.....ink the edges......scrunch each piece into a little ball.....unfold and pierce a hole in the middle....stack them together and put a brad through all layers to hold them together.....then fold and scrunch the layers one by one.....voila!

I found that if I only used the 7/8 inch punch it made great rosebuds- give it a try!

TIP TUESDAY & COLOR CHALLENGE CARD

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

For this installment of Tip Tuesday, I am going to feature one of the cards I received in my color challenge a couple of weeks ago.

This awesome card was designed and submitted by Carole Anderson.

Now you might be wondering why I am using a color challenge submission for Tip Tuesday.  Well it is because I wanted to point out a few great details on her card.

Notice how she chose to sponge the mat in various colors instead of choosing just a plain colored cardstock background.  In my opinion this adds much more visual interest and depth to the card.

Additionally notice that she has sponged the edges of her greeting as well as her focal image- beautiful.

Finally, the two brads add that final touch of pizzazz.

See how evenly she has lined up those brads.....well, here is a tip on how you can achieve that too....use your paper piercer and a paper piercing template to ensure you have perfectly straight and lined up brads!  How easy is that!

Tool Talk Thursday- Embossing Buddy

I made some changes to my blog yesterday, trying to make it more user friendly and less bulky.  I have changed the categories down to just 11 categories....hopefully making it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Tool Tip:  Embossing Buddy

Stampin' Up!'s Embossing Buddy (103083) is a must have tool when using embossing powder or glitter.

Before you emboss or applying your glitter, rub the Embossing Buddy over your card stock to remove any static or oils/moisture.

This will prevent your powder or glitter from clinging where you don't want it.

Embossing Buddy - a tiny, little tool that does a lot!

Crumb Cake Cardstock 3.75 x 5.00

Tie ribbon on cardstock.

This is such a quick and easy card....but very striking as well. This could be used for a variety of occasions.
I purposefully did not put a greeting on the outside as I was making this for "my stash"- I will put a greeting on the inside when I give it to someone.

If you would like to join us for card classes, you will learn how to make great cards, similar to these.  I have card classes twice a month, and scrapbooking classes twice a month.  See class schedule on the tab at the top of my blog.   Call to reserve your seat in my class- 204-232-7744.

SATURDAY SMART IDEA

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.....
This picture tells me that some crafter is going to make darn sure her scissors are not going to get abused by family members!

I can remember when my boys were little, it was always a struggle to make sure they did not use my fabric scissors on paper.

I can surely relate to this crafter's dilemma. And what a GREAT idea! Now why didn't I think of this?

Congratulations Cherylyn! - I have emailed out your notification that you have won, and you will receive a free class.

You have six months from today to redeem your free card class or a scrapbooking class.

Now, here is Cherylyn's beautiful card using all four required colours:

A big thanks goes out to those who participated in the challenge. Their cards will be featured in later blog posts.

SCRAPPIN FRIDAY- January Graphic 45 Page

I have a scrap layout to share with you today, but I also wanted to draw your attention to a new feature that I added to my blog.  At the bottom of each post you will see a bright green button that says "Printer Friendly"  If you click this button it allows you three options, to print my blog post, to save it as a pdf file, or to email it to yourself or a friend.  How cool is that!  So if there is something I post that you want to save or share, you are just one simple click away!

This paper is a new line from Graphic 45- it is AMAZING- love love love it. It has an old fashioned/distressed feel.

I used the snow swirled stamp set to add some turquoise snowflakes, which I then highlighted with a sakura gel pen to bling it up.  I added a few rinestones and silver foil snowflakes for added bling.  Now I just need to get a couple of great winter pictures in January to fill in this page!

Masculine Monday- Scraps

We all have the same problem- too many scraps!

Well here is a fun card that will use up some of those small scraps:

Mat is4" x 5.25" Night of Navy and the corners have been rounded .
I punched out different sized cirles from scrap cardstock and then punched smaller circles, offset inside the main circle. Glue to mat with Tombow and then run through the Big Shot with your favorite embossing folder.
Attach mat to standard card base1.25" x 5.50" is Real Red and the corners have been rounded.
To add more visual interest I grabbed my white gel pen and added dashes around the outside.  A quick greeting and voila!

SCRAPPIN FRIDAY

This is my "Upcycling" layout.

The definition of upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.

Each of the nine square mats are paint chips that have been cut to size- how cool is that!

QUICKIE WEDNESDAY

Here is a quick and easy card I made a while back:

"Sweets For The Sweet" stampset on page 49.  Item#122512 $22.95

It features bright summer colors of tangerine tango, tempting turqoise and melon mambo.....and what makes this card (in my humble opinion) is glitter!  Just a quick application of 2 way glue and a sprinkle of dazzling diamonds makes this card extra special.

TIP TUESDAY

 SWALLOWTAIL OR FORKED RIBBON TUTORIAL

This is when you notch a V out of the end of a ribbon.

Here’s a really easy way to do it:

1. Hold the ribbon so that it’s folded in half      lengthwise.

2.  With sharp scissors, cut the ribbon, starting at the folded edge, angling toward the end of the ribbon.

 Voila!

MASCULINE MONDAY

For this edition of "Masculine Monday"  I wanted to share with you an awesome swap card I received from fellow demonstrator Ralonda Pote.

Now this card uses some retired products, but just because they are retired, doesn't mean they aren't fabulous!

This fun card is an explosion of colours- from the Not Quite Navy card base to the Pumpkin Pie Mat to the Old Olive stars.

And inside is a surprise explosion of stars and balloons. How fun is that- when you open the card the stars and balloons pop up!

SCRAPPIN FRIDAY

Well you probably could have guessed what this weeks post would be....after the Boyz last week, we could not leave out our beautiful girls.

This layout is everything girly!

The sewing was done with the fabulous Sew Easy tool that perforates the design into the cardstock....then all I had to do was grab some embroidery floss and follow the dots.

The lettering was once again the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies page 192 item#127553 $110.95

The flowers are the Floral Fusion Sizzlet die on page 191 item #114511 $6.95- add a quick pearl to the center and they are done.

A piece of wide irredecent ribbon added the finishing touch.
