Happiest Wishes for Mojo Monday #338

I spent the morning spring cleaning....ya I know spring is not here yet in Manitoba, but Mike was working and I wanted to get started.

I cleaned out my cupboards and fridge- that was a big job.  Then I took all the stuff out of my closet and cleaned it and refolded clothes and made it functional again- another big job.  I gave a bunch of stuff away to charity and that was enough for one day!

So then I decided it was time to go in to my craft room to create
this bright and cheerful birthday card  for the challenge over at Mojo Monday #338 found HERE

This is their sketch challenge:

Here is a list of products I used to make this card:

Melon Mambo card stock
Pacific Point card stock
Pumpkin Pie card stock
Gumball Green card stock
Banner Punch
Circles Framelits
Happiest Birthday Wishes stamp set
Memento Black ink

It's time to think about it....

It's true.....it is that time of year.....a new annual catalog will be coming soon.....and that means five new incolors!  Yay!

But that also means we will be losing our 2012-2014 In Colors :(      I am so sad to see these go.....especially the Gumball Green, Midnight Muse and Raspberry Ripple- I LOVE their rich tones.

Typically these sell out very very quickly and once they are  gone, they are  gone.  Don't fall into that trap!

Now is the time to check your stock.

-Do you have the Ink Pads?
-Do you have the Re-inkers?
- Do you have the Markers?
-Do you have a good supply of Card Stock?
- Do you have a good supply of Stretch Ruffle Trim and Satin Rbbon?
-Do you have a good supply of the Dahlia Embellishments
- Do you have a good supply of the Core'dinations Paper?
-Do you have a good supply of the Designer Series Paper Stack?

Scrapbooking- Organization

Today I wanted to share with you, some tips I have gathered on organization for scrap-bookers.

Whether you are new to scrap-booking or have scrapped for years, you may find some tips here that will help you with your organization.

Photos- Organize your photos in chronological order, or by event.  This will make creating your layouts much easier.

Page Planning- When choosing your photos for your layout, choose your embellishments at the same time.  Then choose your card stock and papers and put it all in a plastic envelope.  You have just created a "KIT" and it is all ready for the next time you sit down to create...how cool is that!

Storage- Use stackable plastic drawers is always a good solution for tools.  You can label the drawers and you can fit a lot of stuff in there, yet it is close at hand when you need it.

Layout- when you are playing around with the layout and trying to figure out what is going to go where, have a notepad handy to write down notes about the photos, or ideas of what you want to add.....this way it is all there when the page is completed and it comes time to journal.

I don't know about you, but for me, journalling is the hardest part.  My suggestion is, the minimum you must put on a page is who is in the layout, the occasion, and the date.

List of Supplies- Keep a small book in your purse with a list of scrapbook supplies, so that you do not duplicate what you already have.  It is very easy when you get in a store to get overwhelmed with the beautiful papers and cool embellishments and awesome tools.

Vacations and Trips- Whenever you go on a trip bring clear ziplock bags for each day you are away.  Place any memorabilia in the bag to add to your layouts when you get home.

Cardstock and DSP- organize by color, it is much easier to find and saves you a ton of time.

Current to Past-Always scrap your current photos first.  These events will be fresh in your mind and much easier to create layouts with.

Finally I want to share with you a photo of how I store my packaged embellishments.

It is a dollar store paper towel holder and three split rings and some page protectors from staples.  You can add to it or remove pages easily.  It allows me to quickly flip through what I have and find what I am looking for. It keeps everything neat and tidy and protected and does not take up much space....yeah simplicity!

Watch for my next post on Scrap-booking Tools!

One For the Boys.....CTS #69 and TCC #6

This is a simple one layer card I made this afternoon for two challenges.

The first challenge is over at Case This Sketch 69 found HERE
and here is their challenge:

The second challenge is over at The Card Concept 6 found HERE
and here is their challenge:

At the Card Concept you get to choose a style....and I chose Clean and Simple.

This clean and simple card has lots of white space and is just one layer.  I used Whisper White for a standard card base.

I chose the stamp set called Perfectly Penned for the birthday greeting which I stamped in Chocolate Chip Ink.

Then I used post it notes to mask off the greeting so I could stamp the plant image from the By The Tide stamp set in Sahara Sand.  Then I stamped the fish image using Island Indigo.  I grabbed some pencil crayons and coloured the fish a bit and then a sakura gel pen to add a little shine to his scales.

Monday Mini Tutorial

Happy Monday Everyone!

I just popped in for a quick Monday Mini Tutorial on flagging the ends of your banners.

I always used the scissor method but had trouble getting them even....then I got the banner framelits which are GREAT, but sometimes I want a  a skinnier version.

So here is my super tip for today:

Grab your hexagon punch and insert it like shown in the photo with the space even on both sides and simply punch.  Voila- super easy and super even flag ends!

Here is a sample of a great way to do a greeting:

After finishing this card, Mike & I decided to take advantage of the beautifully sunny day and go out for a drive and do a bit of shopping.  It was still quite cold, but oh so sunny!  We drove around the city and went to the Ikea store on the southwest side.  I LOVE Ikea!  They have so many innovative storage ideas.  But man oh man that store is HUGE!

My main purpose for going was to get a Bygel rail and the hanging storage buckets that go with it for the front of my desk in my craft room. Here is a photo:

I located the Bygel rail easily enough...but could not find the buckets anywhere.  All they had were three of them tacked to the display wall...bummer!  We asked staff and they looked at us as if we were aliens and had no idea where to look.  So I came home with none! :(

I did however find these oh so neat storage boxes that perfectly fit my embossing folders and my framelit dies. They are called "Skubb Design Monika Mulder boxes-$11.98.  They are designed for organizing socks  etc in your drawers and closets, and are heavy plastic covered in durable nylon.  They are available in black, white or lavendar. . They came in a pack of six; 2@5.5" x5.5", 2@5.5" x 11", and 2@ 11" x 11" Here are a couple photos of how I used mine:

In case you are wondering, I store my framelits in their envelopes but on a piece of magnetic sheet so they don't get bent or lost.

We also picked up a couple of laundry baskets, some nice heavy glasses,a scrub brush, and a can opener for the trailer....oh I cannot wait until the three feet of snow melts and we can get out to the trailer for a visit!

We decided to go for lunch while we were there. Let me just say the choices are....strange...egg salad and shrimp sandwiches(together)- who does that?  Anyhow we went with the most normal looking item fish and chips with a side of 5 meatballs as hubby wanted to know what all the hype was about.

Well let me tell you.....don't do it.....do not eat at Ikea....in a word GROSS!  I should have gone with my gut feeling and just had coffee and a cinnamon roll.  Waste of $20.00 and a stomach ache to boot!

After Ikea we went to a couple of local craft stores in search of a "glitter magnet"  It picks up loose glitter.  I could not find one, so I am going to have to look online.  After last Thursday's card class, we need a glitter magnet- there was glitter everywhere!

Well off to creating more cards for swaps in my craft room today.  See Ya!
