Project of the Month:
My project of the month is a cute little gift tag made with a common manilla shipping tag and the new Stocking Builder punch.
I took a common shipping tag and inked it with a sponge and real red ink. I then used the snowflake stamp from the Season of Friendship set and stamped snowflakes randomly in Bashful Blue. Next I stamped my greeting in Basic Black. To spiff it up I added some shimmer with a gel pen. (is very hard to see in the photos) Then, using scraps I punched out the stocking pieces and assembled with TomBow. To finish it off I simply added a ribbon and voila!
Hot New Product Spotlight:
I would like to talk to you this month about the wonderful new Stocking Builder Punch in the Holiday Mini on page 34. I love this little punch! It is so stinkin’ cute! And it if you combine it with the Stitched Stockings Stampset on the same page, you are going to have sooo much fun creating beautiful cards and gift tags for all your holiday giving. Also, on page 30, Stampin’ Up! offers some Mini Jingle Bells, which are absolutely adorable! Attach these to your stocking creations for even more holiday fun!
I have numerous stamp sets and retired products for sale. If you are interested in a list and prices, contact me by email at andersonshel@gmail.com
Well, that’s all for this month. Remember, you can leave your holiday wish list with me and your family can contact me to purchase items off your list.

Food for Thought About Your Time Mangement...
Here is an article that each of us should read and think about.
Oh, and if you haven't read the book mentioned in the article below, you should. I highly recommend it and you will not be sorry you did- The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey.
Confession Time About Time Management
Posted: Thursday, October 20th, 2011
I have a confession to make…I struggle with time management. There, I said it, and it feels better. Now, I know you're shocked by this if you read this blog, because I teach time management and I have a really great program for getting your time and calendar under control. It works if you work it.
There's the rub, not just for you but for me too.
I've become convinced over the past few years that time management is 5% about having a system that works for you and 95% about the choices you make regarding that system on a minute by minute basis throughout your day.
Here are some choices that I know pull me repeatedly off track.
Saying Yes When I Should Say No
We all are guilty of this one to an extent, and some of us have the disease to please worse than others. I hate to let people down, so I often take on one more project (paid or otherwise) that I have no room in my schedule for. I also often say yes to things that steal my time instead of focusing on the things I know will move me forward in my business (see the next topic for more on that).
Avoiding the Important in Favor of The Urgent
I've been doing this a lot lately, and I even recorded a video blog post about it this month. It's obviously on my mind. Steven Covey covers this brilliantly in his book, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People." He refers to urgent items as those things that demand your immediate attention and don't serve hour higher purpose for your life and business (like e-mail or a text message). The important items on your schedule and in your life, according to Covey, are those that take you, step by step, to your goals. These are generally much more methodical and boring than the urgent items in my day. They are also the things that make me fist pump and feel great when they are completed. Go figure.
Trying to Cram 10 Pounds of Stuff into a 5 Pound Bag
There are only supposed to be 8 hours in my work day (and truth be told, I'd like to cut that back to 4), but my to do list is generally 10-12 hours long. There's no amount of creative calculating that will ever make that work. I am a highly productive individual and I get more done in a day than most people. I type wickedly fast (my brother-in-law once assumed, listening to me work from another room, that I was joking by just hitting random keys, because no one could possibly type that fast) and I move through my life quickly. I also multi-task too often (which, while a great skill to have, usually means you're not bringing your best self to whatever you're multi-tasking around). This one tends to lead to…
Deliberately Denying My Basic Needs
This starts to happen when I'm truly over committed and overwhelmed. I literally don't eat or take the time to run to the bathroom. My kids are cynical about me because for most of their lives I've said, "I'll be there in a minute, just let me finish this" and not shown up for eons. If I'm sitting in front of my computer when I say it, they just roll their eyes. It really bothers me, but obviously not enough to have changed it. If I wander into my office to "just do a quick check of my e-mail before breakfast," I can literally end up not getting up and actually making breakfast until two hours later (at which time I often just skip breakfast all together and just aim for lunch).
So, where do we (you and I) go from here?
I know this has been a building problem and concern for me over the past few years, and the more my business and speaking career grows, the worse it gets. Here's a list of a few things I'm currently focused on that I think are going to help me. Feel free to steal any of these ideas and see if they work for you as well.
- I'm delegating more (thanks to may Virtual Assistant Julie McElroy and my web queens Amy Celona and Chelsey Reinkens). You know how to delegate too, you probably just don't do it enough. Ask for (or hire) help.
- I'm putting myself first (working out or meditating first thing in the morning, before I head into my office).
- I'm using the tools I have deliberately (like planning my week on Sunday, making a daily to do list, weekly dinner menus, etc.)
- I'm giving myself a break and learning to listen to my intuition and live more in the moment (because sometimes the things I've planned for that day don't feel like the things I'm supposed to do. I'm becoming willing to scrap my plan if I feel I'm supposed to).
- I'm taking time every day to reach out and connect (with my clients, potential clients, business associates, friends, etc.)
So, what about you? Is this an area with which you struggle? Do you have some creative and inspiring ways to control how you spend your time? I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments below. (If you're reading this post through your e-mail, click on the title above to join the conversation).

Shimmer Paint
Four Ways To Use Shimmer Paint
Stampin' Up! has some wonderful products for adding glitz to our cards and
scrapbook pages. Shimmer Paint is a great option when you want to add a subtle yet effective glimmer to your projects. This is a very versatile product, and can be applied in a variety of ways:
1. Shimmer Mist- mix a few drops of shimmer paint with alcohol in a small spray bottle ( the more shimmer paint the more glimmer) then spray on your project.
2. Faux Pearl technique: Dab shimmer paint on cardstock, then sponge over it to get a mother of pearl effect. Just stamp and color your image as usual, add shimmer paint, then sponge with a couple of neutral coordinating ink colors.
3. Brayer: Put a few dabs of shimmer paint on an empty stamp case. Spread around with the brayer until it is covered with a thin film of paint and then roll the brayer over your cardstock.
4. Paint Brush: Use your paint brush to paint it onto your scrapbook pages to add highlights to specific areas.
4. Paint Brush: Use your paint brush to paint it onto your scrapbook pages to add highlights to specific areas.
Note that the Champagne Mist and Frost White are not as opaques as the Platinum. Keep this in mind when you are planning your applications.

October Scrapbooking Class page three
We had only three ladies this month for scrapbooking class...but we had a great time!
As always, I provide a sample page, to be used only as a guideline. The girls are encouraged to express their own creativity in the pages they create.
This is the third of three pages we created. This page was really fun, because we got to use the electric distresser to distress the edges of our papers.
Here is my sample:
And this is Betty's page:
And this is Carole's page:
Unfortunately, Dorothy had to leave early and I don't have a picture of her page for you right now. As soon as I get it, I will post it for you.

October Scrapbooking Class Page Two
We had only three ladies this month for scrapbooking class...but we had a great time!!
As always, I provide a sample page, to be used only as a guideline. The girls are encouraged to express their own creativity in the pages they create.
This is the second of three pages we created. Since our first page was time consuming, I went with a really simple page this time.
The idea here was to teach the girls that really striking pages could be created using just scraps- so KEEP ALL YOUR SCRAPS ladies, you never know when they will be needed.
I store my scraps in hanging file folders by color, making it easy to file and easy to find.

So...once again check back tomorrow to see the remaining pages from October's Scrapbooking class!

As always, I provide a sample page, to be used only as a guideline. The girls are encouraged to express their own creativity in the pages they create.
This is the first of three pages we created. We used the Big Shot and the Leaves die. Out little acorn men were simple to make with the ornament punch, the oval punch and the lattice embossing folder.
This page was a "Progressive ScrapbookPage" . You start out by making a 6" x 6" page. When completed, you move on to create a 8 1/2" x 11" scrapbook page, encorporating the 6" x 6" page into it. When that is completed, you move on to create a 12" x 12" scrapbook page making sure to encorporate the 8 1/2" x 11" into it.

October Newsletter
Shel’s Stampin News October 1, 2011
Hi Stampers!
I hope you have all had a great month and got lots of cards and scrapbook pages completed.
1. Did you know that today, October 1st, is World Card Making Day?
World Card Making Day began in 2006 as National Card Making Day. Founded by Paper Crafts magazine to bring card makers together at the beginning of the busiest card-making season of the year, it was first held on October 7, 2006.
The initial celebration involved the Paper Crafts magazine audience only; however, due to the positive response it received and the worldwide popularity of card making, the holiday became known as World Card Making Day from then on.
Celebrating its sixth year in 2011, World Card Making Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October. It's a day for the card-making community to unite and celebrate the connection and creativity that is the heart of card making.
I am celebrating World Card Making Day by making cards to send to the troops overseas, and hopefully brighten their day. How are you celebrating?
2. I am excited to announce that Creating Keepsakes magazine has named Stampin' Up!'s wood- and clear-mount rubber stamps as one of its Top 10 Tools for 2011!
This years set is located on page 16 of the catalog and is called Turtle and Co. It is a great multipurpose stamp set you are sure to enjoy. It is $24.95 for the wood mount set or $17.95 for the clear mount set. Check it out!

While Stampin' Up! has long been recognized in the stamping and crafting industry for producing high-quality rubber stamps and exclusive images in a variety of artistic styles, being recognized by Creating Keepsakes is just another validation that when you choose Stampin' Up! products, you are choosing the best!
3. Did you know that each year Stampin’ Up! designs an exclusive stamp set to help raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charity. When you purchase the stamp set, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3.00 to RMHC. With the help of demonstrators and customers, so far we have contributed over $1,000,000 so far!
