Cards from Technique Tuesday ...

 

On Tuesday I did a Facebook Live where I shared the Cut and Flip Technique.  

This is a simple technique that creates quick and easy yet gorgeous cards.

For this first card, I used Pretty In Pink DSP  with Pretty In Pink, Basic Black, and Basic White.  I love how this one POPS!  

Tip:  When choosing your DSP make sure that the patterns on both sides will be going in the correct direction BEFORE you cut.  

You can see from the above card that one side of the DSP was non-directional and the other was striped so it easily worked for the cut-and-flip technique. 

This next card was a bit different...I modified the sizes of the "DSP" because I chose to use Reindeer Days Memories and More cards in place of DSP. 

Tip:  Always think outside the box....think of alternate ways you can replicate what someone has done. 

This final card was made using the Season of Green and Gold 12x12 DSP and Gold Foil. This is SO BEAUTIFUL!

Memory Keeping—Albums

Have you ever made an album with an envelope? All you need is notecard-sized envelopes, patterned paper, and a touch of creativity! To build the album, fold the envelope flap back to give the crease a bit more flexibility, and slip it into the opening of another envelope, facing down. Use adhesive to adhere the flap more securely (we used Stampin’ SEAL+). You can fancy it up by attaching patterned paper to cover the envelope pocket. Repeat these steps with as many envelopes as you wish (we did five!). You can then decorate the inside layout to reflect the memories you would like to keep. Once you are finished adding envelopes, wrap the flap from the first album around all envelopes smoothly and adhere to last envelope on the outside. This can be covered up with patterned paper to hide the flap.

DSP Cut Measurements:

Cut 12 x 12 DSP into 2@ 5 x 12 , leaving a piece 12 x 12 Cut the 5 x 12 pieces down to 4 pc 5 x 6- score each on 6 inch side at 2 1/4 Cut 2 x 12 piece at 2 inches Cut the remaining piece in half at 5 inches, then cut these in half vertically at 1 inch

Shel's Tip: For easiest cutting, you should use double-sided DSP that is non-directional.

Technique Focus

As many stampers know, StāzOn ink is a watercolorist’s best friend. Why? It doesn’t smear when it comes in contact with water—which means it’s the perfect choice for stamping and water-coloring projects. Most of us are familiar with Jet Black StāzOn, but did you know that we also offer this amazing ink in Saddle Brown?  Its rich, earthy color is perfect for many types of projects, and can be especially useful for creating a soft, vintage look. To show off Saddle Brown ink (and the Winterly Tree Tops Bundle!), we created a beautiful, nature-themed card using a Crumb Cake Cardstock base. We stamped the bough image twice on a Crumb Cake Cardstock layer, then added a watercolor wash of Pecan Pie ink on top to give the card an aged/tea-stained look. Tip: Use the wide Water Painter. Stamp the bird image in Saddle Brown StāzOn ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, then add watercolor details with the medium Water Painter and various inks (we used Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Lost Lagoon, and Pecan Pie). We stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla Cardstock and die-cut the banner shape using the Stylish Shapes Dies. To finish, layer the elements, positioning the Shaded Spruce Cardstock bough beneath the branch.

Two-fer on a Monday! featuring the Full of Life 6x6 DSP.....

 

Today I have two cards to share with you using the Full of Life DSP #163357 found on page 43 of the Annual Catalog.

This second card was super simple to make.....the DSP did all the work.....just added DSP to the front of the card....added a greeting and a bit of ribbon behind it....super easy!

CASEing Color

Most times when people are trying to recreate a color combination, they usually do so strictly with ink and paper. What if we told you that you can recreate the color combination by using elements? That’s what we did with the Peace & Joy card. We loved the colors of the Sending Thanks Your Way card, but instead of just using ink to highlight those colors, we used different elements. To showcase the Night of Navy, we used Natural Tones Linen Thread, and to show Berry Burst we used the Purple Fine Shimmer Gems. We stamped our sentiment in Blackberry Bliss and heat embossed on cardstock of the remaining colors of Cherry Cobbler, Pretty Peacock, and Wild Wheat. Place everything on white cardstock so that the color combination can pop, and there you go! A new card with the same colors. Now it’s your turn! Try CASEing the colors of your favorite project by incorporating different elements into your card

It is also a gatefold, has a belly band, a pop-up, and two hidden message panels too!
